How to Update Oxygen to Version 5.0

The Oxygen Version 5.0 Update has now been deployed to all customers. This new update brings with it the Oxygen Page Creator, as well as a comprehensive collection of bug fixes and refinements.

These instructions are aimed at those wishing to update their Weebly website (that is currently running on an earlier version of Oxygen) to Version 5.0.

The Oxygen Page Creator is only compatible with Oxygen Version 5.0. Earlier versions of Oxygen are not compatible with the Page Creator. You need to install the Version 5.0 update before using the Page Creator.

A Few Important Notes Before We Begin:

• If you, or a third party developer, made any custom changes to your Oxygen theme's CSS or HTML, those changes will be erased upon installing the update. If you edited the CSS stylesheet, or if you added/edited any HTML layout pages, those will be erased upon installing this update. If you had custom work done to your theme, we recommend that you backup all the custom code and inject each code in the new theme. Please contact us if you need help with this. This includes any service in which we may have made any custom changes to your theme.
• If you haven't made any custom changes to your Oxygen theme code, then your content will be transferred upon installing the new update. There should not be any content loss. However, if you have a website with a very heavy amount of content and are worried about any potential content loss, please contact us as we can install the update to your site on our part for peace of mind. The only content loss we've seen customers report over the years is sometimes the background images for headers reset back to default due to a bug in Weebly's system. Therefore, we recommend you make a backup of the header banner background images if you don't have them saved on your computer.
• In any case, we recommend making a backup of your website. You can do this by using Weebly's "duplicate website" function, to copy your website. If you are unsure how to do this, please contact us.

Important: Do note that this update is not mandatory. If you've already built your Oxygen site in Weebly, and are happy with it, there is no advantage to installing this update. This update contains features and fixes mainly for those who haven't completed their website yet, or have just started building. So, if you're already done with your site and are only maintaining it, you most likely won't benefit from this update and can continue running your version of Oxygen.

Important Note #2: You don't need to know this right now, but later on when you start creating custom page layouts in the Oxygen Page Creator, you need to be aware that importing your new layout on top of an existing page will wipe out the existing content. The layouts are meant to be applied on new standard pages. The best way to address this is to create a new blank page, apply your new layout on there, and then copy-paste content from your old page to your new layout page. Obviously if you're satisfied with your existing pages and their layouts, you don't have to do anything.

If we, you, or a third party developer made any custom changes to your theme's code, (whether it be in the HTML, CSS, or Javascript), installing this update will erase these changes. If you didn't modify your theme's source code at all, you can continue to install the update.

Now that we got that out of the way, read on to learn how to install this update and activate the Page Builder.

How to Download & Install the Oxygen 5.0 Update:

1. You should have received an email containing a download link to the update. Click on it, and download the .zip. This .zip includes the theme, and the page builder. If you did not receive a link, please contact us.
2. Extract the contents of the download .zip, and keep this extracted folder somewhere safe on your computer (we recommend the desktop).
3. Open up your Weebly website in the Weebly editor.
4. Click on the "THEME" tab.
5. Click on "Change Theme"
6. Click on "Import Theme" in the upper-right hand corner.
7. Click on the orange "Select a Theme" button.
8. Now, navigate to the folder you downloaded and extracted. Inside this folder, you'll see another folder called "upload what's inside." Open that folder up, and in there you'll see Oxygen5.zip. Upload Oxygen5.zip.
9. After you upload, it'll seem like nothing happened. Give the editor two minutes.
10. After about a minute or two, you should be taken to a page with all your custom themes. Find "Oxygen5", and press "choose."
11. That's it! You have successfully installed the update.
